THROUGH THE LOUISIANA HOUSING CORPORATION

NATCHITOCHES – Mayor Lee Posey would like to inform the citizens of Natchitoches of the Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program announced during Governor John Bel Edwards press conference today, Thursday, July 16, 2020.   The Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program is a program designed to provide rental assistance to residents facing financial hardships as a result of the corona virus pandemic.

The Louisiana Housing Corporation states, “In an effort to help lessen the outbreak’s economic impacts, the program will provide emergency assistance to renters who are at imminent risk of eviction as a result of shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours, or unpaid leave due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Eligible applicants will receive assistance for rent in a one-time, lump-sum payment made directly to property owners or management companies. The total assistance amount will depend on income eligibility.”

Applicants can complete the intake form online at www.larenthelp.com or by dialing 211, as well as, review the eligibility requirements.  Once an applicant completes the intake process, a representative will contact the applicants who receive preliminary eligibility within 30 days via phone to continue the application process.  Applicants and the landlord will then be asked to provide further documentation to determine final eligibility.  If your application is approved rental payment(s) will be sent directly to the landlord or property owner.

Mayor Posey stated, “All of our citizens have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in some way.  Unfortunately, the future is still uncertain and many of our citizens are suffering or beginning to suffer financially. I hope those citizens needing assistance; will be eligible for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and this funding will eliminate some of their financial stress.”

For more information or questions regarding the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, you can contact Louisiana 211 by simply dialing 211.  Representatives are available to assist applicants with the pre-screening application.
