Showdown on Cane River Lake
The Lady Bass Anglers Association winds down the final regular season of the event with double the excitement on June 17-18, 2021. Not only is the Cane River Lake event the LBAA’s Wildcard, but it is also where the 2021 Angler of the Year showdown will take place in just under two weeks! The Wildcard offers anglers some additional opportunities to qualify for the season culminating Lady Bass Classic. The additional ways anglers can qualify for the Classic include: 1) Winning the event, even if this is the only event fished for the season; 2) being the highest finisher in each division, not qualified by AOY Points; 3) The Draw… Every angler in each division who has fished all year but did not make the points cut goes into a draw for one boater and one co-angler slot. While many tournament trail entries drastically drop off when anglers know they are not able to qualify for the championship, we maintain or increase in our registrations.
We have had close Angler of the Year points races in the past, but none as close as this year in the Pro-Division. It is a dual of the Pam’s! Pam Martin-Wells of Bainbridge, Georgia and Pam Ridgle of Murchison, Texas are dead even heading into the final event of the season. The order of their finish on Cane River will determine who will earn and be crowned the 2021 Angler of the Year! Both are fierce competitors, so no doubt it will be a photo finish!
While the points race in the co-angler division is not so close, it is close enough to still create some buzz. Only ten points separates first and second place and twenty-five points between first and third place. Diana Uebelhack of Otwell, Indiana is currently sitting in first place. Hot on her heals in second is Sherry Jacks of Clanton, Alabama and in third, Cassie Hall of Alabaster, Alabama. Each of these anglers are highly skilled, but they are at the mercy of the draw. Co-anglers are randomly paired each day of the event with different boaters. Will the boaters they draw be on or around fish? It can make all the difference in the world!
Everyone is invited to join us at the River Front Pavilion each day for take-off and weigh-in on Thursday and Friday, June 17-18, 2021. Take-off each morning will be at safe light and the weigh-in will take place each afternoon at 3:00 PM. It is a great opportunity to meet the anglers and watch the final showdown take place!
In addition to the showdown, the anglers of the LBAA are also taking part in or bringing in two events especially for kids. The first event is “Casting with the Pros” on Saturday, June 12th at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame located at 800 Front Street. Jennae Biddscombe, the Branch Director reached out to us to help arrange for kids to get instruction on casting, knot tying and the likes from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The second kids’ event is the Pond Hopper Nation Teach A Child to Fish Day and will take place on Friday, June 18 from 12 pm to 6 pm at 626 Front St, Natchitoches, Louisiana. While the anglers and fans were awaiting the official results, spectators were provided with a ticket. Four lucky winners walked away with a brand-new Livingston Lure! Anglers will be awarded prizes for the Biggest Bass in each division sponsored by Joey Ridgle’s Septic and Sanitation Services, LLC., and Tiny Bass Awards for the tiniest bass brought to the scales in each division sponsored by Vickie’s Threadworks. First out of the money in each division received $150 Yo-Zuri gift packs. Toyota Bags were awarded to the second out of the money.
