Natchitoches Humane Society
The Natchitoches Humane Society, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, was formed to improve the lives of animals throughout Natchitoches Parish. The Society works closely with the Natchitoches Animal Shelter to promote adoptions, and the Society is a major proponent of spaying and neutering. In efforts to increase spaying and neutering, the Society provides financial assistance vouchers to individuals residing in Natchitoches Parish who adopt a pet or who are in a low-income bracket.
The Humane Society collaborates with rescue groups around the country and in Canada to place some of the unwanted and abandoned animals in our parish. An alliance between the Humane Society and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Victor Jones has led to the creation of Happy TAILS - a housing facility for animals awaiting transport to rescue groups. The Humane Society also investigates reports of animal cruelty and neglect, and pursues prosecution of any individuals charged with such crimes. The primary focus of the Society, however, is a reduction in the number of homeless animals by promoting spaying and neutering, encouraging adoption, and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
Natchitoches Hope for Paws
Natchitoches Hope for Paws, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a foster and adoption organization for homeless, abandoned and neglected animals within the Natchitoches community. Founded in 2009 by a group of animal lovers, the organization is governed by a Board of Directors who oversees and maintains all aspects of the foster site, adoption days, fundraisers, marketing and education. The primary mission of the organization is to relieve any suffering from the animals, rehabilitate them to a state of adoption, spay and neuter them, and educate the community in combating the unnecessary animal population.
Natchitoches Hope for Paws is always in need of families and individuals to foster rescues; volunteers to assist at the site or events; as well as dog food and supplies. Monetary donations are also welcome to help continue their daily mission of saving and rehabilitating the unwanted dogs and cats in our community. All donations and proceeds from their fundraisers go towards the ongoing rescue and medical attention and most importantly the spay and neuter fund. Each year the organization is able to offer financial assistance towards reducing the cost of spaying and neutering pets.
