History Among the Tombstones: Stories from the American Cemetery

Walk through Louisiana's oldest cemetery with guides dressed in period costumes telling the history of the American Cemetery. The tour begins at the American Cemetery entrance, located just to the north of Holy Cross Church; parking is available across Second Street from the Cemetery.  All proceeds raised from the tour will be used for historic preservation, restoration, and educational projects in Natchitoches.

Wings Over Natchitoches

Wings Over Natchitoches

Wings Over Natchitoches’ will take place on Saturday, October 14th at the Natchitoches Regional Airport located at 450 Wallenberg Drive. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and plenty of sunscreen.  An adult must accompany all children.  (Alcohol, ice chests, and pets are strictly prohibited.)  Admission and parking are free. Concessions and memorabilia will be available at the event.

6th Annual Crows on the Cane

“Pop-up Movie in the Park

Perhaps you recognize that line from George A. Romero’s 1968 classic, “Night of the Living Dead.” If not, now is your chance to see this iconic zombie film! The Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) is hosting its first “Pop-up Movie in the Park” Friday, October 20, at 7pm. The movie will be shown in the new City Park amphitheater, next to the City Pool at 401 Amulet St. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets for seating. The Friends of the NPL are providing free popcorn and punch while supplies last!

A Life Playing the Blues: A Musical Informance with Hardrick Rivers

Please join us at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum for an afternoon with blues musician Hardrick Rivers. Folklife Ambassador for the Louisiana Folklife Commission Dr. Shane Rasmussen will interview him about his music while Hardrick plays songs to exemplify the discussion.  This event is part of a series of events throughout the state for Folklife Month in Louisiana.  This program is funded under a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The program is free and open to the public.

Join Cane River National Heritage Area as they celebrate Louisiana Archaeology Month with hands-on children’s activities and discussions led by two regional archaeologists on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Grand Ecore Visitor Center. Tad Britt, Head Archaeologist with the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training will discuss his research of a “Pioneer Settlement Along the Red River: An Archaeological Investigation of a Mid-18th century Colonial Homestead near Natchitoches, Louisiana.” Britt’s discussion is scheduled to begin at 10:30AM
