Natchitoches Historic District Wallking Tours (11am & 2pm)

Cane River National Heritage Area and the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission offers guided walking tours of the Natchitoches National Historic Landmark District twice daily at 11am & 2pm, Tuesday through Saturday. 

The walking tours will cover topics such as: the Cane River region prior to European contact; the French & Spanish colonial period; antebellum plantation culture and period; Reconstruction and tenant farming; architectural history; and Creole and Catholic culture, history and customs. The tours are family friendly and meant to engage all ages.

Tours are free and will begin at the Natchitoches Area Convention and Visitors Bureau located at 780 Front Street. For large group tours, please contact the Cane River National Heritage Area in advance at 318.356.5555.

89th Annual Christmas Festival

Celebrate the Christmas Season in Louisiana's oldest city. Ranked 3rd "Best Holiday Light Show" in the nation by Yahoo.com, enjoy our daylong festival filled with musical entertainment, arts, crafts, food vendors, a parade and a magnificent fireworks show choreographed to holday music over the riverbank of Cane River Lake. Admission armbands are required for entry to Front Street and Downtown Riverbank. Advance armbands will be available to purchase Nov. 1 online and at local businesses: $6 ages 12 & over, $4 children 6-11 & Free under 5.

  • 7:45am - Natchitoches "City of Lights" 5K (Register: NSUDemons.com)
  • 10am - 4pm Féte de Hiver at Fort St. Jean Baptist SHS, Celebrate Christmas 18th century style with historians, re-enactors and period merchants.$4 for persons over 12 & under 62.
  • 1pm - Festival of Lights Parade
  • 3:30pm-8:30pm - Music on the Downtown Riverbank Stage
  • 6pm Fireworks over Cane River Lake
