Tour Stops Include:

  • Metoyer-Brown House (366 Rue Jefferson) - Francois Benjamin Metoyer, son of Claude Thomas Metoyer, built this house in 1850. The house was constructed by Trizzini and Soldini for the Metoyer Family at a cost of $17,000. It is typical 2-story Late Greek Revival with French influence. Remodeled in the early 1900s and again in 1974 when original architecture of the house was preserved.
  • Chamard-Dunahoe House (120 Rue Amulet) - The architectural style of this house, circa 1788, is French-Colonial with hand-hewn cypress rafters and bousillage walls. Originally fitted with its own chapel, many marriages and baptisms were performed here.
  • Chaplin House (434 Rue Second) - In 1893, the one story Victorian House was built without plans or drawings, for Thomas Chaplin, by a man known as Zeno. Later, apartments were added in the attic to board college students and professors. Renovations were made in 1978 by Dr. Mildred Bailey. The floors are original heart pine. Several Clementine Hunter works can be seen.
  • Prudhomme-Rouquier House (446 Rue Jefferson) - A magnificent example of French vernacular half timber construction, it is the largest known example of bousillage (mud and moss) in teh United States. Built in 1782 on land acquired through a Spanish land grant, it was extensively remodeled in 1825 to the Federal and Greek Revival facade you see today.
